  A Minor Incident

The Dún Aengus suffered a minor incident on the return trip from Schull on Saturday last when an injector malfunctioned on one of the engines and caused the engine room to smoke up. As a precaution the engine was turned off and the vessel returned to Schull and the fire services were alerted. When the smoke had abated it was clear that no significant problem had occured and the vessel recommenced its journey to Cape Clear under one engine.A new part has been ordered from Germany and we expect to have it fitted and the vessel back in service by Friday. We consider that the Skipper and crew handled the situation correctly taking the appropriate precautions. There were no passengers on board.

We are grateful to Brendan Collins of the Novice who assisted us to operated a limited service on Sunday from Schull and plan to operate according to schedule on Wednesday and Thursday using a combination of the Gaisceannán and Norvic if needed as a back up. Today, Tuesday there are no sailings to Schull due to the very poor forecast. We think a Fastnet Trip on Thursday is unlikely at this stage unless the weather improves considerably.
